Registered Technical Advisors for Heat Pump Grant Applications

To qualify for a Heat Pump System Grant your home must be well insulated and have low heat loss. This is to ensure your heat pump system performs well and your electricity bills are not too high. That is why SEAI require a technical assessment to be carried out first.

Before you apply for a Heat Pump System Grant, you must select an independent, SEAI Registered Technical Advisor like ourselves. We will carry out a technical assessment of your home, and will advise you on what steps you need to take to make your home heat pump ready.

SEAI offer a €200 grant towards the technical assessment of your home. This grant is only payable in conjunction with the Heat Pump System Grant. To qualify for this grant you must:

    – Use an SEAI registered Technical Advisor;

    – Complete the heat pump system and any upgrades required according to the programme rules.

The starting point for a Technical Assessment is to carry out a BER Assessment and issue a BER Certificate. If a valid BER Certificate existe on your property, we will still need to visit the property and carry out an inspection to ensure that the current status of the property is accurately reflected in the current BER. When a current BER Certificate exists on a property we usually ask the owner to request access to that BER file via SEAI, this is done via email to SEAI with a proof of ownership of property attached (Utility bill usually suffices).

Following the BER assessment and issie of BER Certificate we will carry out an Energy Upgrade Assessment Report (see example), this will outline all possible energy upgrade works that you may carry out on this property to reach an A3/A2/A1 standard. 

Within this report we will outline the energy upgrades required to reach the required standard for Heat Pump grant approval. This standard is known as HLI (Heat Loss Indicator) and the standard is 2.0 w/m2k . What this means is that the overall heat loss of your property is less than 2.0 watts per metre square of your dwelling per degree change in temperature.In certain circumstances a HLI of between 2.0 and 2.30 w/m2k is acceptable and we will advise you on this.

This HLI value is obtained by checking the efficiency of the building fabric and ventilation systems.

Following this analysis we will create the Technical Assessment Report, this report will outline the various upgrades that may be required to the fabric of the dwelling (like upgrades to walls, roof, windows etc.) and upgrades/changes to the ventilation systems (like removal of chimneys, fitting extract fans in wetrooms, airtightness etc.).

This Technical assessment report is required when you make the application to SEAI for your Heat Pump Grant.
